Instructions
for Authors:
The Orthopaedic Journal at Harvard Medical School is a review and
update of academic activities in the Har vard Combined Orthopaedic
Residency Program. It is not a peer-reviewed publication. The opinions
expressed and the accuracy of the data are the responsibility of
the authors alone and do not necessarily reflect the opinion of
the editorial staff and the Harvard Orthopaedic Residency Program.
Unpublished
original investigations should be referred to in general terms (e.
g. trends, fractions, or percentages)so that future publication
of the study in a peer-reviewed review is not compromised. Mention
of unpublished studies in The Orthopaedic Journal at Harvard Medical
School is meant to inform the readership of current research activities
and interests of Har vard faculty. Citation in this manner represents
a type of press release and as such does not constitute dual publication
according to the Uniform Requirements for Manuscripts Submitted
to Biomedical Journals (NEJM 1997 336:309-315). Nonetheless, authors
should be forewarned that the final judgement on such matters is
made by the editor of the journal to which the final manuscript
is submitted.
Submissions
to The Orthopaedic Journal at Harvard Medical School should take
the form of an organized review. The language can be relatively
informal. Instead of simply reprinting abstracts of recent work,
the review format will provide the opportunity to summarize background
information and mention recent developments in the field (including
presentations at national meetings, symposia, personal communications,
and published literature) prior to summarizing the research performed
by a Har vard group. The style of the manuscript should follow the
Uniform Requirements for Manuscripts Submitted to Biomedical Journals
(NEJM 336:209, 1997). One electronic copy of the manuscript is sufficient.
One set of illustrations can be submitted in any form (e. g. slides
and jpeg files welcome).
