Letter from the Editor-In-Chief
George S.M. Dyer, MD
Welcome to the ninth issue of the Orthopaedic Journal at Harvard Medical School. Founded now almost a decade ago by one of our residents, our journal has grown and evolved. Now printed annually in full-color, it provides a snapshot of academic activity in each of the residencys major affiliated hospitals, as well as a glimpse of the current life of the residency and of the departments.
Each years issue represents a major investment of time and expertise on the part of the faculty who answer the call to submit articles for the clinical content and on the part of the department chiefs who summarize the clinical and research work at their institutions. Id also like to thank the alumni who together with industry provide financial support to this journal. My fellow editors, Mark Price, Coleen Sabatini and Darren Lebl have been extraordinary to work with. And finally Diane Sheehan, our perennially-capable business manager, has as usual kept this project on track despite many other demands on her time.
In this issue we depart slightly from tradition by dedicating it to two individuals rather than one. In their careers at Childrens Hospital Drs. Mike Millis and John Emans have influenced a generation of graduates of the Harvard residency. Dedicating this volume to them is a way of showing appreciation to two surgeons who have almost gone out of their way to avoid drawing attention to themselves. Dr. Peter Waters beautifully-written dedication is an artful way of dragging these two reluctant heroes, blinking, into the bright light of well-deserved recognition.
Its been my pleasure to serve as editor in chief this year, and I hope you enjoy reading it as much as Ive enjoyed putting it together.
Sincerely,
George S.M. Dyer, MD
