Resident Life
The Tomes
By: Jared Lee, M.D.
The Tomes legacy continues as they won the MGH basketball championship last night for the second year in a row. Overall that makes 3 championships in the last 5 years. Despite Dr. Rubash (general manager and director of player personnel) being away, losing Big Ben Nwachukwu to a midseason injury, and without the defensive specialist Steve Gardner, the Tomes pulled out a tough win over Big Sachs in a repeat of last year’s championship game. The Tomes (aka Da Basher's) were down 8 points at half but shots started to fall and the defensive intensity increased as they pulled themselves back into the game. The final score of 57-46 does not reflect the gutty performance of the second half in which the Tomes took their first lead with 8 minutes to go in regulation and won the game going away.
After the game Kanu Okike, Jared Lee, and Dax Jacobson all announced their retirement from the MGH league. They will be searching for 'has been' and 'wannabe' leagues in Baltimore, Vail, and Ireland respectively next year as they try to resurrect the glory days. The returning core will be strong with the following roster.
- Center - Big Ben Nwachukwu
- Power Forward - Jon Alicea
- Small Forward - Steve Gardner
- Shooting Guard - Brad Hill
- Point Guard - Mike Baratz
- GM - Harry Rubash
- Team Doc - Tom Gill
- Water Boys - Mark Vrahas, Jesse Jupiter
