ALUMNI
ANNOUNCEMENT Thomas S. Thornhill |

The Harvard Combined Orthopaedic Residency Program has a world-renowned reputation, an illustrious list of graduates, many orthopedic firsts, and current residents who promise to be leaders of the future. Our new leadership will continue to build an even stronger program and weather the storm from cut backs, mergers, and government reductions in funding of academic institutions and residency programs. Traditionally, the Harvard Orthopaedic Alumni group has been organized around a Cocktail Party at the AAOS. A survey that we conducted over a year ago strongly supported continuance of this party but to make it a better program worthy of this group. In the past this was funded by a cash bar as well as input from the various departments and some members. The survey also showed an interest in re-connecting alumni with the educational program in Boston, thesis day, the year-end graduation ceremonies and by periodic review courses held in Boston either during the Spring or Fall. The Harvard Orthopaedic Journal will fulfill many of the goals of the Alumni Association in an attempt to reconnect its alumni academically and socially. The $100.00 annual dues will include subscription to this journal, cover the individual costs for the Academy affair, and provide part-time administrative help for Alumni affairs. Any excess will be placed in the Resident Education Fund to be used to build an endowment for the fund, support residents traveling to present papers and other resident activities as determined by the Executive Committee. Please submit your check as soon as possible and we welcome suggestions for other alumni activities. Moreover, if you have any professional or family news that would be of interest to your friends and colleagues, please submit it so it can be incorporated into the next edition. |
