7th Annual Harvard Orthopaedic Golf Outing
Sandy Burr Country Club, Wayland, MA
May 28th, 2004

This annual event was a smashing success once again. Held at the Sandy Burr Country Club, the 7th Annual Harvard Orthopaedic Golf Outing enjoyed its highest turnout in recent history. Close to 80 golfers came prepared with sunscreen in one hand and a golf bag in the other. Each player received an authentic 7th Harvard Golf Outing T shirt and a sleeve of Titleist golf balls with a Harvard logo.

This year’s event was a competitive one. Three teams shot 8 under par or better. However, the winning foursome with a low score of 12 under was Lars Richardson, Robert Davis, Steve Mattheos and Raj Ahluwalia.

The Barrry Simmons Award for the most outrageous moment on the golf course went to Peter Buecker. He managed to cause major structural damage to a gazebo on the 11th hole with an errant drive. Unfortunately, Peter despite his best efforts couldn’t erase evidence of this utterly comedic act. You see Peter’s golf ball managed to get stuck in the soggy wooden post with just part of the ball showing. The part that could be seen had two initials visible-P.B.

Some of the other awards handed out included longest drive-male to Robert Fullick; longest drive-female to Karen Bernstein; closest to the pin to Todd O’Brien.

This year’s organizers, Steve Mattheos, Travis Matheney and Raj Ahluwalia, received universal acclaim at the organization of this year’s outing. The outing continued the spirit of camaraderie and friendly competition among the residents, staff and alumni.

This year, because of new guidelines regarding industry funding of non-educational activities, the fundraising effort involved no support from industry. The funding of the outing was made entirely possible by generous support of the Harvard Orthopaedic faculty and alumni. Included are names of all the attendings who helped support a resident or fellow and made this outing possible.
